My Betsy Autosleeper

I'm looking forward to it and either way its been good motivation to get lots done on the van this month. Speaking of which i spent today rewiring most of the van as things didn't work before. almost all lights and switches. and got stuck at something, Can anyone tell me what this little this is wired too/does?

I thought that originally but its just like a straight jack in, and there already a shoddy but seemingly to fiddily to remove immobilliser already fitted :/
 
I did start following them back and back as the loom looks a little mental (Looks like a diy job gone wrong with bit of all different colour wires patching opposite colour wires together haha) i then got sidetracked and started looking at the flasher unit. I unearthed it and also tried making the connection and nothing happened, Reluctant to take it of tho as you never know eh

We will all pop round to yours for an hour on the Sunday after the illuminations and you will be up an runing in no time :D

Well took betsy out from under the tarp today, Took her on her first lil drive in many years, only a few hundred meters but good to get her moving and see how she's running. Idle she felt good but as we took her down the road she seemed a little rough, miss firing a little and wheels felt a bit seized which was expected. Got a new set of spark plugs to put in her. Going to do an oil and filter change as well. hopefully that will help. What oil are people using? Ooh and took a little pic as we pulled her out. Doors, front and a few little bits to get in primer before she goes for a test. Getting there tho :D

Tok your advice on the lights for the front panky. We needed some anyway, won some mini halogen crystal's for 26quid delivered. Now just the brakes lights to sort out. or lack there of haha
 
Clarabel uses halfords classic 20/50 as well-comes in a nice retro tin! Make sure in any event that you use mineral oil. Hazels Dad ( Clarabel did Jersey and back from Yorkshire on just half a pint!)
 
Well, Can't sleep so thought i'd update the latest on the van. Bit more tinkering and a full clean-out as it was also seemingly being used for storage. After taking a piece of horrid ply down from out the big cupboard i could see the colour Betsy used to be so thought i'd share :

Got a few silly questions to ask also, So i apologise for my naivety in advance :) First off i was wondering where the fuse box usually is, as mine just seems to have a few in line fuses but couldn't see a box. it might be i've not looked hard enough, and secondly i was wondering what the setup is with the break lights. i cant see any sort of switch system to tell the lights when the break pedel is pressed. also as soon as my ignition is turned they both turn on. even with the handbreak off as i thought that may have been connected. any idea's

Brake light switch is hydrolic and located on the drivers side of the engine bay. Its screwed into the four way splitter for the brake pipes and should have two wires going to it. If lights come on with ignition the switch could be duff or have some crud in it. either way i would just replace it. Failing that there could be a short from one of the wires to somewhere on the bodywork. Fuse box is an exageration at best! It has two fuses and is located just above the drivers feet on the front panel. I ripped the whole thing out and replaced with modern fuse box as the original is useless and WILL let you down whenever possible!!

Ahh thanks very much, i'll investigate with the break lights. and i had spotted those fuses but didn't think that constituted as a fuse box :p
 
Had exactly the same thing with our brake lights[}:)]. Flushing out the switch sorted it for the MOT:p (re-test, they stuck on at the test centre first time) but started sticking again few weeks later so definately best just to get a new switch, Speedies does them. If you top up the resevoir first and then make sure you pump some fluid thorugh into the new switch to fill it and then the housing before you screw it in then hopefully you won't need to bleed the brakes;)
 
If you want to check if it is the switch pull one of the wires of the switch, if they go out it is the switch if they stay on it must be a short (I think). Oh yeh and don't snap your temperature sender off as our wire ran close and I snagged it and snapped the top off whcih I am still tryijng to get a propoer replacement for[}:)]
 
A common mod is to fit a microswitch on the brake pedal instead of the hydraulic one.
