Noticed an amount of play in the wheels etc. and was advisory last MOT with other bits like steering, it does clonk a bit over bumps and been getting worse.

...the advisories last year were:

N/S O/S Axle front Swivel joint has slight play
Both from Trunions have slight play
Offside front steering system has slight free play
Centre joint steering system has slight free play detected at steering wheel

I'm going to try Panky tighten up the steering worm and grease, fill oil on the box...but to fix these while the van on axle stands what do I need?

I'm guessing 2 x Kingpin sets for the swivel joints
What are the Trunions?
What would be needed for that offside front steering system - is that steering ball joint (do they have them with Kingpins?)

Hopefully not daft Q's - not up to speed on these old setups :)

Upper and lower trunions, either end of the stub axle carrier. Play in steering probably a track rod end. Centre steering joint will be intermediate pin play. Quite a bit to go at there:I

Ah thanks Martin...do you have all that stuff in and more importantly how much :) - I'll try take a look this weekend at it all. Really want to tighten the front end up...

So the Trunions I guess are just rubber bushes?

'Fraid not and not an easy job I'm afraid:I
Go easy adjusting the steering box you don't want to over tighten it, I don't think it will make much difference with all the other worn components.

bugger - I've seen the King Pins being a pain in the a$$ but not sure about trunions. now I've got an idea I'll take a look tonight exactly what and where they are and check the movement myself. Need the van on the road in a month with little time to do these jobs so might have to outsource it - got a chap with a resto garage over the road - he drives a boredstroked etc. 2 litre Gazelle so must do these all the time...

FAILED :-( but not too bad.

Lights out of alignment (cool
Cracked wing mirror (cool)
Steering play in system (not so cool)

The van is at the garage now, I've ordered the mirror from Ebay but regarding the steering he said it the same advisory as last year. So the steering centre joint and it looks like a brass? bush worn or something...anyone know what this one is? he's going to send a pic tomorrow sometime (not terribly reliable on that front) that I could post on here but if it's obvious I'd rather order it tonightearly tomorrow to get it mot'd and home for the weekend ...loads still to do before Easter break.

Tim will call you about that diff and hopefully can fetch on way back up - pass near Kings Lynn...

Sounds like the intermediate relay lever pin, the one that goes thru the crossmember.

I had to do the relay lever pin on both Harvey and Bonnie last year, only advisories but I thought I'd get them out of the way. Not a difficult job but the new bushes have to be line reamed once they've been pressed in.

Nightmare - it does sound like that then. Pain in the ass that, don't have any reamers and no idea of the size either, doubt a normal garage will be able to do that but we'll see. Thanks for the info least I can make sure they don't just welly it in :)

Last Q I promise for now - does it all come off so it can be reamed elsewhere off the car or is it an in situ job?

Three ball joints and for bolts - after you've scraped off a bucket full of old grease:D
