MOT & heating

hi, van has been running really well recently, starts almost first time every time and cruising well - we've actually got a bit of enjoyment out of it over the last couple of months. it even survived the bestival on the isle of wight in a foot of mud...[:0]

sadly it is going in to the shop for it's MOT this week and i'm a bit worried about the bodywork. as far as i'm aware it will only fail on jagged leading edges - can anyone confirm?!?
trouble is we lost a bit of the front valance, behind the bumper a few weeks ago. not sure where or how but it wasn't there when we got home!! i'm worried there's not enough sound metal to weld too and it runs into costing a lot of money. it's only missing about a square foot of steel - anyone have any ideas how much this will cost to repair?!?

on another note, what does everyone use for internal heating? as we're coming in to winter months now, it'll get pretty chilly in there - obviously gas heaters need to ventilated and we rarely camp where there's electric hookups so what are our options? extra jumpers?!?:) the cab heater works fine but i doubt the heat will last long in to the night after we've parked up...

it will fail on sharp edges :( non structural bits not so important, its really down to the testers discretion.
there will be some sound metal left, somewhere [:0] woolfy can supply a new valance and depending where you are i can weld it up (cambs/herts) or dozer (somerset) if you cant find someone local :)

we've never found heating necessary - thermal lined curtains and not even a very big duvet seems to be enough.

The humble hot water bottle will see you through with better value than a heater :D

Have never bothered with heating, before petrol went up I used to run the engine for 15 minutes to warm it up - then crack the engine cover open (with engine off) to let the heat into back.

Best invention I ever found for winter camping was the 12v electric blanket - noticed Maplins had them on offer in a recent sale catalogue at £15. I use mine off my leisure battery - but if you don't have leisure circuit they're still great if you have it on whilst driving to get the bed toasty[^] lovely stuff.

Otherwise just generally hats, toasty jumpers and jumping around a lot:D

Paul's got his sensible head on tonight, any other time and he would have told you to sharpen the points and sod the MOT - do a Death Race 2000 and go for it [}:)]
