Modified historic Vehicles - future use!

That's a very narrow viewpoint Les, wouldn't you rather have a sensible upgrade of engine, brakes and cooling system, maybe overdrive, to help cope with modern traffic? These are all modifications from standard (even if Rootes should have fitted them in the first place) and banning them could be within the new regulations. You don't have to build a hot rod to fall foul of this draconian ruling.

I think this is an instance where we all need to support one another. The proposal doesn't affect me.......yet! My car is 1972, but if this legislation comes into force for pre-1960 vehicles, what is to stop it being extended in the future. Will we then want support from those who are affected now?
I have no intention of modifying my car as it came with fuel injection, disc brakes all round etc and it suits me in its original form, BUT, parts are very difficult to source and are not available off the shelf. I may be forced to use alternative parts which will be non-original. Once I have it on the road, I may change my opinion when I use it in modern traffic

I've just spent the last hour composing a letter to my local MEP's that I found using the search function on the link. How many times have you said or heard that these faceless wonders are a waste of time and money - well let's make them work for us - get emailing NOW. Don't bother with standard, pre-written emails - tell it from the heart and say what you feel - politely and in a measured way, but make them listen.

I remember driving up the M1 and being passed by a Jag closely pursued by one of the Ford Anglia's with the inward sloping back window. It was actually parked up at one of the service stations so I had a look inside, there was only just room for the driver, the rest of the space was taken up by a huge lump of an engine. That vehicle would now come under the classical vehicle banner and I think that is wrong, Only my humble opinion of course.

i just thought of something that may affect us all[?]. according to this info classic/historic vehicles will have to be completely standard (Exactly as it left the Maunufacturer) in order to pass the test. but wouldnt this mean ALL of our campers would be stuffed[?] after all they were converted AFTER leaving the factory, so rear windows, pop top ect would be technically classed as a modification from standard (affecting the structure by cutting holes for them). sounds extreme i know, but i thought it was worth mentioning [B)]

The really annoying thing about this and all the other restrictive legislation we have is that it is dreamed up by some faceless eurocrat sitting in his comfy office in Brussels and having to justify his job, so he or she come up with all this crap to make our lives more miserable.
