You're spot on there Paul, I might have been round the block a few times but I've plenty of mileage left in me, I hope, and the best thing is that I still look brand new, with hardly a blemish[8)] What I always say is "if you've got it, flaunt it"[8D]

Here's a picture taken by my Mother about 3 days before I was born (June 1961). Dad and my 2 sisters with their Hillman behind. The family had emigrated 2 years earlier, and Dad got the Hillman as he had had one back in England. Dad's work involved a lot of travel in the outback and the Hillman just didn't cope with the loads of tools and equipment and the endless dirt roads he travelled in those days. Not long after this he bought a new EJ Holden Wagon.

I remember the Arial square very well because one of the lads in the village where I lived had one. The main thing is that although it was very hilly he never had to change gear. For those too young to know what we are talking about here's a picture of one.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of my Grandfather's Aerial, but I know it was an earlier model with the gear lever on the fuel tank. He had his first bike when he first met my Grandmother in 1918, a BSA. Hard for us to imagine the thrill of travelling at the outrageous speed of 30mph back then, the only things faster were steam trains! My bike's a little bit quicker.
