Mini disaster

Finally got around to sorting out the Mini :I
After the usual Mini weldathon, i found out the cause of the loss of drive

It seems it was assembled without the 2nd bush i the primary gear [:0]
so it was flapping around on the crank, flexing and stressing the clutch plate [}]

We had exactly the same problem on a Mini many years ago, it had come from the factory like it as we had bought it new and it had never been messed with. Good old British Leyland 1970`s build quality. Red Robbo and his chums have a lot to answer for!

The only new car we ever 'treated' ourselves to was a mid 80's MG Metro that was considerably cheaper to be factory exported left hand drive to Belgium and brought back to the UK, converted to right hand drive, and sold as new.
How daft was that then[?]

It was the same story with Mini`s. Buy a let hand drive one in Belgium import it convert to right hand drive and save a couple of thousand pounds!
One garage in Watford used to import used Mini`s convert to RHD get them registered, as in those days if you imported a used car it would be issued with the current reg letter,ie 1980 = W reg, and then sell them as brand new!!! They got away with it for quite a while too.
