Middle seatbelt opinions

I have a minor dilema..... too many kids.

I am fitting a 3/4 rock n roll bed which will suit two of the boys in the back of the van, for the younger I have thought about the possibility of fitting a racing harness in the cab between the driver and passenger using the existing mounting points for the stalk mechanisms?

If I bought a racing harness that could share these anchor points would it be ok?

Something like this?

Some vans had lap belts on the middle seat that clipped into the driver and passenger floor mounts so sharing them for your harness should be OK. But I've no idea where to fit the upper mounts for the diagonal part of the belt

Is there enough strength in the seat back to give proper support for the diagonal?

Martin put a lap belt on my middle seat... not perfect as a solution, but certainly works and used (they just have to get used to the gear stick hitting them when I reverse!)

If you fit a harness, you will also need to fit a harness bar behind the seats at shoulder height. the rear straps on a harness need to be between parallel to the ground and 15 degrees down slope. This is very important, as you can cause severe spinal compression by mounting them too low.

yer got lapbelt on my middle seat, mounted in same hole as the left and right 3 point seatbelt connector, clicky thingy (what that called???)

my van had a steel bar across the bottom of the firewall. The bulkhead was also fastened to it. The centre lap belt is bolted to that. I removed it when I took the bulkhead out. I still have it in the garage if its any good to you

Thanks Paul, might take you up on that option if the current one fails.
I have an idea of how I can fit a 3 point belt rather than a harness, I already have the structural mounting points for the lap belts so just have the shoulder attachment to sort.
