MGB rear axle conversion

Just seen a custom car mag that has a Super Minx estate fitted with a Rover V8 engine. I features a SD1 gearbox and MGB rear axle. Presumably, this is a conversion that could be done to the commer, and the axles are probably easier to find than the Rover ones? The standard MGB is a 3.9 ratio. How does that compare to the Standard Commer?

Several issues here. Commer diffs come in 3 ratio,s, 5.6, 5.1, and spacevan 4.7.
Not enough power in a Commer to pull 3.9 ratio.
I assume you are refering to the later MGB salisbury type axle. Its 4x114 stud centres so Commer wheels wont fit. Plus it is alot narrower.
Better bet would be the earlier MGA type banjo axle as fitted to A60,s and J4,s, harder to find and more expensive but 4.3, 4.5 and 4.7 ratios available.
My J4 runs one with a 4.3 ratio as well as an O/D and 17" wheels, but with about 96bhp@ wheels its really on the limit of pulling it.:)
