The centre rail was another idea I'm exploring. Getting some steel laid into the drive every 3metres regardless (as its about to be relayed anyhow) that I can bolt things into this and slide to various widths, this will give me options going forwards.

Racer, that's a version of the equation I was using but with P = KTV, much simpler that way.
 
If you take the square of the hypotenuse, then double it, add it to the dimensions of the commer then that should sort the problem out
 
Also the effect of dark matter on the overall mass of the proposed modification, too much and you will disapear over the event horizon and be lost forever within the singularity - until forever ends you get spat out in a jet of gas ejecting from the centre of a distant galaxy:)

Of course Jim if you decided to go with your first idea and the 13 metres of iron you would only need it for one side as, if my memory serves me correct, the two sides don't go in different directions. I know when it sometimes seems like it and I have no doubt that someone on here will have a vehicle were the back wheels do not go parallel to the other side when they've had a skin full of golden nectar.
 
Just a thought, Maybe a set of kerb feelers set up just slightly smaller then the width of the gap. If you start getting to close and the feeler touches the wall you get a nice beep :) Quite probably a silly idea but just my 2 cents.
 
First prize Jonny, that's what I ended up with in the end after going through Commerracers new calc, probably too much realistically. Lulu sods law the tracks are different widths so having on one side only would mean that front or back wheels could easily move around. Although I wish it was, 3.5 inches to play with isn't much ;)
 
Even though none of us could come up with a solution to your problem it's been a good laugh, especially all those mad calculations. I thought they were hilarious.

According to Lulu 3.5'' to play with is plenty:D[}:)]:D...just as long as you paint a white line along it[}:)]

By the way I will have the same problem when Lulu decides to come home,but I will probably do what I did with the VW Autosleeper. I measured the distance from the edge of the van to the edge of the mirror, added on half the gap that I had to play with, and painted a line that distance from the wall. I always reversed in and made sure that the back of the van followed that line. Some times if I wasn't concentrating enough the mirror would catch the wall and then it was stop go forward and do minor reversing changes. Surprising how soon you get used to it.
