LPG commer settings

Hi every one
Just started tuning my 72 commer highwayman it has a LPG conversion, when i checked the igniton timing i found it to be at 15 d btdc (it was pinking badly before) ive set it back to 9dbtdc ,the tappets were all over the place the exhaust clearences was less that 3 thou !!! reset to 12thou inlet and 14 thou exhaust hot . Because of these settings being so far out any one out there know if the settings should be any different to what i have set them as it has a LPG kit on it ????

thanks
Amos :D

afaik the settings sould be the same as for an engine running on petrol .. however the LPG could be the reason that your tappetts have closed up so much if it doesnt have an unleaded head with hardened valve seats.

Hi bluemouse i found the same problems on 2 big renaults i used to run on lpg,i was having starting and idling probs and found the valves had closed up due to the seats being recessed caused by lpg even though the cars were built to run on unleaded

Thanks:D
it makes sense that the tappetts will close up now that someone has brought it up !!!
Will i need to replace the valves now or will they be ok for another couple of thousand miles ???

thanks again
Amos :):):):)

try a compression test once valves adjusted up just to check the seats if ok would recommend running it on a tank of fuel occasionally to try and keep the seats protected

I for one never considered the effects of LPG on valve seats so I've learned something as well, the focus has always been on unleaded juice and its ability to eat soft seats (you know wat I mean). Just goes to show you.
