Lowering a commer-whats the deal?

To be honest i am struggling to see how an adjustable shackle can be used to lower the van, they are normally used to raise it [?]

Which is heavier ? a ton of Twix or a Ton of Maltesers??

Seems i didnt write what i meant clearly! If i flip the axle i will lower the commer (which is too low for what i want), and so that combined with longer shackles means i can raise it back up a touch to my liking. So flipped axle+some form of adjustable shackle so i can choose my ride height? hope thats clearer now!
 
Ah i see now :I its the cheapest option for sure, won,t improve the handling much though, and the spring shackle u-bolts will be under a higher tensile load, but it will work :)

Like i said, only if its marginal, its still an improvement! The commers sticking with the original engine for the time being so it wont be going anywhere fast! So effectively that will work? Why are they under more load? Is it going to be a significant increase (or will it depend on the amount i raise it by?), and is there much i can do about it? It seems to be a common way for offroaders, but i havent read anything bad about it yet.
 
That's what Bobby was describing - slam it then raise it to wherever you want with longer (multi holed for adjustment) shackles:I.

Yep, Bobby's way is definatley the way forward. It can be set to the exact height you want. He hasn't just done the sunny citrus and his autosleeper as mine (wanderer called the F.T) is with him now and has already been slammed, and been fitted with 80's american camaro wheels!! Pics in the new year people :eek:)

Still hoping for someone to do the first air suspension Commer...not seen one as yet.

After Tim's 5 link setup might be pretty easy to do with a spring carrier and shocks or a coil over with a bag. Front I presume would switch for a coil over with a bag too if can find one the right length.

I guess that set up would take the weight as it's done on big Yank cars all the time and they must weight a fair bit.
