Low Oil Pressure advice please

Hi folks, just back from a long trip to Wales in Smurf with ever lowering oil pressure, now zero at tickover and 20psi at 55mph. No knocks and rattles yet but I suspect its general wear. The engine has done 57000 miles or so (probably!), what sort of milages do others get out of an engine?
Time to put the spare Hunter engine in I suspect. Is it possible to do this from passenger door, with a hoist?

Yes you can take the engine out through the door but don't pull the engine just yet. First job is to check the oil pressure relief valve in the oil filter housing, they can get debris stuck in them and cause low oil pressure. These engines should last a lot longer than 57K. Another point is are you using 20/50 engine oil?

Hi thanks for reply, I've check the presure relif valve before but today swopped the one from my spare hunter engine and its just the same, and yes 22;50moil in there. Perhaps the speedo is not reflecting the miles actually done, I think its an engine out job!
Not going to start that just yet though, its still working, just no long trips!
Cheers Ill post picures when I do it.

Well I,ve taken the engine out, Crank shells looked good (but could have been a bit worn) and crank looked fine and all was standard size. However I had it measured and the journals were all below wear limits so it needs a regrind. The engine has obviously been apart before, a decoke at least is evident from marks on the tops of the pistons. I suspect Smurf had new shells on the cranks journals. So the low oil pressure was caused by wear
