Locking the crankshaft?

I need to undo the nut on the end of the crank as so i can remove the pulley wheel which i now realise is buckled...[V]
IS there a way of locking the crank?

Thanks!:D

hi paul, stick it in gear, get an assistant to put there foot on the brake, hope the clutch is good, shock it with a good hammer :D

Its an Auto, sorry i should of said, and the brakes are dismantled at the moment....i just thought there might be a way of locking the crank otherwise!, thanks anyway!!:D

Try an impact gun. Obviously in the first flush of keeness, ripping it appart already. I have a pulley if you need one.

Thanks MArtin...id rather buy another than try and hammer it into shape.God knows how its gotten in such a state.Im suprised the fan belt hasnt come off!..[^]

Not the easiest of nuts to get to. All I can suggest is to borrow enough socket extensions to bring you back through the starting handle hole and, with a T bar on the end, give it a good whack. There should be enough resistance from the engine compression to allow you to do this. Although Martins suggestion is the best way of dealing with the problem if you don't have access to an impact gun this may be worth a go. I have even heard of someone jamming the end of the T bar and flicking the engine over on a particularly stubborn nut, not recommended.

Well its off, as i have no airgun i turned the engine over with the socket on the end of the breaker bar and turned the engine over.

:D
