I picked up my Iranian bottom end yesterday evening. I met the chap who's selling them and funnily enough he's Iranian. I probed him on the origins of the engines and if he had any government contacts in Iran at this point he became a bit cagey and said "these are things we can't discuss" other than that we chatted about Rootes cars and what it's like to own a car in Iran. Anyway the deal was done and I ended up paying less than the price advertised price on eBay . So I'm going to start reassembling my new engine over the next week or so and I would like to know from others experience is it totally necessary to take out the wind screen to lift and replace the engine, or can you crane it in through the passenger door? I've got a decent size crane with a fairly long arm.
 
Passenger door is just fine! See if you can encourage him to find the presses for panels :)

Been to see him too..nice chap and his brother too who drives a gold Hillman Hunter. The warehouse is full of gems...would love one of these bottom ends at some point as I guess they'll run out at some point.

So it's ok if I build the engine right up with the manifolds and the head and then crane it in through the passenger door?
 
No worries to get engine out the passanger door. I did it on mine and it was easy with two people. I had to bring it out the drivers side due to lack of space so had to remove the steering wheel so it can go out either side.

I just need a good rootes...
 
A Rover V8 goes in through the passenger door ;)

Yup, got swapped Harvey's lump using a frame made up from scaffolding poles through the passenger door:)

It's bolt in bolt out now Tim - drop it through the floor or a really long crane in the back doors
