Leisure battery

I'm currently rethinking the configuration of our van as part of our restoration project, having just stripped out most of interior over the last week - it's looking a bit forlorn at the moment :(.

The invaluable leisure battery is currently just tucked away in one of the cupboards, as I'd like to maximise space here I'm curious whether any conversions have a leisure battery under the rear floor somewhere.

I'm thinking it might fit on the opposite side to fuel tank but it's too wet at the moment to look. It could go under the offside in place of the water tank but I'd like to reserve that for a future LPG tank.

What setups have other Commers got ?

Depending on the configuration of the cupboards and bulkhead it can go in the battery tray behind either of the front seats, under the bench seats in the back or you could make a box similar to the gas bottle holder on the opposite side of the van, as long as there isn't a water tank to get in the way.

Its best if you can site it next to the normal battery as its useful to be able to link the two, eg have both charging when engine running. If they are far apart you will have a large get in the way cable, which will also suffer some loss if it is long.

Same as Harvey. I think I'll leave the hinged lid off the original battery tray behind the passenger seat and put a leisure battery in there. That's if it will go in with the bench seat fitted - hmmm on second thoughts that means I won't be able to lay the front bench seat flat, looks like the battery is going under the rear bench then:I

my battery is still behind the front bench seat passengerS side & still goes down to a bed :proom for another battery drivers side too [8D]

If it gets a bit damp you could end up with a built-in electric heater:)

metal is no where near posts ;) I was a bit worried about putting weight on the batteries but as it is only when as a bed occasional use I think it will be fine.the weight is evenly distributed.

The Highwayman has a battery box set into the passenger side floor which is good for access when the battery (inevitibly) goes flat. There is also quite alot of wasted space in the extended part of the rear floor where several batteries could fit. I am a little worried at the distance for charging and the size of cable needed but i have a setup like this on my boat and it seems to work without any problem.
Wherever you put it be sure to ventilate it to the outside as the gas from charging is not good.

Hydrogen! Excellent just pipe it back to the manifold and you have a hybrid!
