LED Rear light units

Looks like a good price. The only issue I can see is, because of the lower current draw by the LEDs, that the flasher unit may not work properly.
 
Unfortunately the seller states:-

"the lamp has not been officially approved for highway use, and therfore they are sold for show and off road use only"
 
Sounds like a lot of mucking about and outlay just to get some LEDs on the van (even if they were road-legal)?
 
My understanding is that it is not legal to fit LED lamps in units not approved for them. This is because LEDs have a different light distribution to incandescent lamps, so unless they are tested as a combination, the men in grey suits can't be sure they will perform properly.

I find the best way to improve the performance of my units is to take the covers off occasionally, wash the insides and clean the connectors.
 
You can just go with LED bulbs which have all the brightness benefits but keep originality. Need to change bimetallic strip though or they will flash too fast.
