Apologies if this treads on any previous threads regarding new glass for the Commer range.
This morning my 1959 Peerless GT was fitted with heated, laminated front and rear screens. Brand new and now available off the shelf. For the rear screen it ends a 50-year wait. The quality is superb.

The heated elements are optional. Also available is new side glass. The rear quarters were made from laminated, the door glass from toughened to withstand abuse when window winding.
A non-heated front screen cost less than £110+VAT, heated £165+VAT.
The side glass cost £20 each.

I have mentioned the CVF and the posssible desire for its owners to want laminated, heated glass, too.
The Peerless glass was an initiative between Classics Monthly magazine, the Peerless and Warwick Owners Register (PWOR) and the manufacturer Auto Windscreens. The (non-prohibitive) tooling costs were funded by the TR Register's Spares Development Fund and will be recouped via a small percentage donation from the sale of each windscreen.
The bottom line is new, improved and affordable glass is available if you want it. The more owners opt in, the cheaper they'll become.

Overseas owners will be glad to hear the glass can be shipped worldwide and be laminated with colours or even solar reflective materials as found in the latest vehicles.

Laminated glass and Commer front ends make sense in my opinion.

That sounds something of a bargain for such a rare car. There must be many more Commers than Peerless GT's around so the cost could be even lower[8D] Anyone need a screen:I

Not so rare as I think the Peerless Gt used a TR3/TR4 windscreen frame, so presumably also the screen itself. And I reckon there are 10 x more TR4 than Commers....I would be surprised if tooling was less than 3 or 4k sadly.

I read that article this morning and IIRC the tooling cost was around £500.

Hello Jules,

the Peerless screens are unique (classic archeoligists the world over have put many theories forward believing otherwise, but we know the truth), hence the need for the retooling. The latest I heard is that Morris Minor screens fit. Total misinformation.
A screen's Argic code never lies.

So, who's up for new glass? Tinted glass on a Commer would look rather dapper. Or how about a panorama roof? Fall asleep looking at the stars (and wake up to pigeons mooning you..):D

Anyway, it's all possible. The glass is British, affordable and excellent quality. I do like happy beginnings and endings.

I'd like one of them! my screen has gone a little milky at the bottom... and its always misty! It would keep my hands warm when I'm pushing it too [:0]. So long as it is't too dear of course!

Yes, Auto Windscreens is in administration as of yesterday with 1100 people facing redundancy. My best wishes are with them.

It doesn't mean the end necessarily. The maufacturing plant and expertise there is world class so hopefully it will re-emerge with new investors.

I'll be issuing a statement on the CM website once the situation has been clarified.

Auto Windscreen are still operating, they came out to us on the last bank holiday to replace the windscreen on our Alfa 147. They've been bought up again, apparently their workforce has been slashed but the company has retained the experience.

The really nice guy came who came out to us, saw our Stag and we got chatting about classic windscreens in general - AW are still in that market but he didn't know about Commer windscreen availability specifically

Is there any update Gary ?
