Knocking noise coming from my everyday car.

Hi I've got a 1.9 diesel kia carens, ive noticed there's a knocking noise coming from the right side of the engine as I look at it from under the bonnet. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Is the noise actually coming from the engine, is it there all the time when it's running or does it happen when you go over a bump or turn the steering?

The noise comes when I slightly depress the clutch, it also happens on tick over.its not as bad when I'm driving.

Do you think it's coming from the engine? If not I'm thinking maybe an engine mount.

It seems to be at the edge of the engine covering on the passenger side.

Have a quick look to make certain Dave Edmunds not living in the engine compartment.

It was my clutch, I thought it might be. I've been quoted best part of £900.

£900 for some new underwear, just go to Marks and Sparks, their underpants don't cost as much as that:I

Hi les thanks for the advice, I actually saw dave Edmonds at cropredy and he was singing the blues. Seriously though is that to much for a clutch etc?

I use a mobile mechanic when i'm too busy to do the job myself (or not skilled enough!) He charges me £170.00 a day and I supply the materials. I think you're getting ripped off.
 
£900 for a new clutch is certainly a rip off, so you should shop around a bit, it doesn't need to be a kia garage to fit a clutch, mind I'm a good one to talk about being ripped off.[:(!]

Hi hubbell, I've found a mobile mechanic who lives local. He's going to give a price over the weekend.

To be fair a lot of mobile mechanics are pretty useless. But about 1 in 10 is a diamond so once you find one don't loose the number! I can usually suss them out after a 5 minute chat over the phone.
