I can confirm that the Hif carbs will bolt straight onto that monifold. I have had my rapier lump running on a pair of 38's. I didn't realise until I took it to get set up that I only had limited opening of the butterflies, but people have got round that with the single su's, so easily doable on a twin set up. Makes me wonder how much more power there would be if I had stuck with them and got them fettled. Hmmm....I found the carbs and a spare alloyy manifold the other day......!!!

Awesome, thanks, good to know the SU's will fit my manifold. Although I might not need them as I now have a pair of Dellorto DHLA 40's off an Avenger.

I'm going to try running the Dellorto's before I go back to the Strommies or SU's.

With those carbs, the overdrive box and a bit of head work, she should have a bit more pull than the current iron head lump attached to the 3 speed auto. Who needs a Holbay ?

Speaking of the new gearbox, I collected more parts.

I really only wanted the gearbox so I could fit the shifter, but I had to take the whole lot. Who knows, another spare engine might come in handy?

While waiting for more welding gas to arrive, I thought I would see what was hiding under the bubbly paint on the sill.

Whaddayaknow, the bubbles were hiding rust. Looks like someone has already had a go at fixing up the wheel arch. Pity they didn't get the flutes shaped correctly or that patch probably could have stayed.

Rear corner has seen better days.

Got the grinder out and started cutting, and kept cutting, and cutting...

Made a wee mess. Anyone know why the factory put holes in the inner sill? If it was to catch mud and road grime to promote rust and therefore sell more vans, then they succeeded. In saying that, I think I got off quite likely, all things considered.

More evidence of old patches, interesting use of fibreglass to seal the gaps though.

Looks like I will be making up some rollers for the swager to get those flutes sorted. The scary thing is that this is the good side of the van [:0] Other side is much rustier.

And yes I can get jets and other parts for the Dellorto's (checked that out before buying them) so no worries there

Looks like disc brakes will happen. Picked up some Super Snipe stub axles, discs, callipers, and backing plates for $50 . I contacted the Humber car club, and after being told by one guy "What a stupid idea, why would you want to do that?", a helpful chap sent me these:

The rotors seem a bit thin though, and look like they need replacing. Pads and calliper rebuild kits are easy to get, so the rotors could be the only stumbling block. Not sure where I will find new rotors. One place on the net advertises vented rotors, but the Snipe rotors are solid, hmmmm. I haven't been to the brake shop yet, so will see what they say...

On the plus side, they seem quite a reasonable size, bigger than the Mitzi L300 brakes sitting in the workshop

Same as mine, I had them re-finished as I couldn't find new at the time.

Got busy chopping out rust on the rear corner.

The previous repairs weren't really up to my standard

In the pic above, the floor looks a bit rough. Turns out the floor is sculpted with filler.

Some repairs needed here me thinks

It's good to finally see someone put in some metal patches, but unlike the PO I will be cutting out the rust before I put in new steel. It's a pretty difficult area to get to, so unless a full body rest was undertaken I guess it would have been a big job for the old Fulla to sort out.

Started putting in said new steel. Got the wheel arch sorted now.

Might have to get into the frame next. Ick. But it's gonna be good to know I won't have rust issues for a few decades
