I wondered when this bit of bull would rear its ugly head [}:)]

I fully expect it to be MORE economical as the pumping losses are much lower and the efficiency much greater. Plus with a massive increase in torque it,s hardly going to need to change down the box and scream.
A 3L Capri did 17-23 mpg depending on the model, mine with a 5.8L v8 did 28 mpg, 60 mph was 1500 rpm.
Sure if you boot it, then it will drink. That,s the same with any engine.

My 4.0l V8 averages about 25mpg with a mixture of urban and longer runs. On long runs at 70mph it manages around 32mpg, but on short urban trips it drops down to the teens. The occasional blast on the right foot doesn't appear to have too much impact on consumption, as you only need to use it for very short periods or you will be breaking the law or sitting in a hedge backwards. Obviously if you floor it at every set of traffic lights your consumption will plummet, but that applies to most engines. :)
