Just wondering...

after my mechanic told me my earth strap was fine, I was wondering does the earth strap take all of the positive charge from the engine or does some still remain.

No as long as the earth strap is in good condition and maintains a good contact all should be fine. The engine can't hold a charge like a capacitor.

It can't, a battery or capacitor will hold a charge but an engine is just a big lump of metal. The current will always follow the path of least resistance - if there is no earth (be it earth strap, choke cable or some other contact between engine and body) then the engine will not run.
