just to say hello

hi,have just registered and thought i would just say hello, have recently bought a 1979 dodge pb motorhome i think its a ci motohome Monza, shes a beauty, inside needs a bit of update but the body is in terrific condition, got a bit of electric problem at the mo,she starts, sometimes, runs like a dream then starts spitting and you know what and stops try to start her again and she just spits and you have to blip the throttle to try and keep it going, its had a new weber carb, new fuel pump, coil, points, condenser, just waiting for a new dizzy cap, gonna keep puttin new bits on her till i find it,but if anybody has any ideas would be eternally grateful, have now got the pb bug, still trying to convince the other half.will try and put some pics on soon cheers Ian

Hello and welcome!

Excellent choice of van.

The problem is either going to be fuel or electrics, is the fuel filter full when she stops? Maybe some dirt in the line or pump somewhere? The symptoms sound a bit like fuel to me, but I could be wrong.

If its electrics, I would look at the low tension side, try wiggling the coil wires etc and tracing the switched wire to the coil to see if there's a loose connection somewhere.

cheers

cheers mate found that the LT wire was brittle at the coil end and the outer plastic would just crack when you bent it have renewed it as far down as i can, near where it goes into the loom might have to go further its annoying at the mo cause shes all road legal and dying to try her out, will keep you posted.Ian

Hi Ian and welcome to the forum - Great to hear from you

Hope you get to enjoy your new wheels soon - sounds like you may have found problem, but if you're still a bit bumpy it may be worth checking for gunk from the tank in your new fuel pump, it may be picking up some crud if the tank is grubby.

Looking forward to seeing pics:p:p:p

good stuff, keep going through the things one by one.

I know the feeling of wanting to use all the legal time as possible and do the other stuff when you have to!

good luck

silly as it sounds i had the same trouble the other week in that old triumph 2000 i bought, it turned out to be the rotor arm was knackered inside the dizzy, the spark cept arcing across and wasnt fireing properly;):p

dodgy repro rotor arms. they conduct and then burn through -I had this problem about 9 years ago in the morris - confounded 3 AA men!

i know in the end i had a rac man show me a trick, he cut a fnger off a rubber glove and some how put it over the out side of the rotor arm, and he then wraped a bit of duct tape or something roynd the inside of it to make it a tighter fit, it worked a treat and got me all the way home with no bother after that.;):p
