Jump leads.

I've jumped mine from the leisure battery before if that still has good charge you could try that (although I am sure someone will explain why you shouldn't[:0]). You might find cold weather means your battery loses charge quicker. I always disconnect the battery when I park it up at home as I think we had something trickling power out when parked up as only held charge for 3weeks or so and a new battery didn't fix it. As ever best thing is to drive it often:p good luck.
 
Are you sure you havent got a bad earth or a dodgy starter motor? Mine had a dodgy starter when I bought it, even with a fully charged battery it would struggle to turn over.

I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.
 
I have charged the battery and it still won't start. There's fuel in it, could it be the Starter motor? It started first time when I last put fuel in it. It dies feel like the batteries fiat but the charger says it's fully charges. Any clues?

Like Pauls said check the earth lead to the body first. If that's OK then it's probably a bad starter motor.

It might just be that the starter motor brushes are worn and need replacing.

How hard a job is that? Will Martin stock them. It just clicks when I turn the key, it's so frustrating.

It's not a difficult job, two bolts and the cable to disconnect to get the starter off. Depending on which starter is fitted it may involve a bit of soldering.
Where is your van, is it safe to leave it while you sort the starter out. Also - have you tried the starting handle?

I would still want to try it with a known good battery in place, just in case your present battery no longer holds charge properly.

Cheers Greg and panky, that would make sense as on the few occasions it's happened before a good charge to the battery has sorted it out. How will I know if it is the starter motor? I have a small holding Panky and it's up there, finally starting handle? I know there's a space for a starter handle but I didn't think it would still work so no I haven't tried it. Have you got a picture panky, I love pictures. How difficult is it to change the bushes?

Not sure I'd fancy using a starting handle, arm breaker i doubt you'd start it anyhow unless it normally fires instantly

Of course it all depends on who you are insured with and what sort of recovery policy they have. Considering the fact that you had been driving the van yesterday and when you went to start her today she wouldn't start!![:0] and I shouldn't have to explain the rest unless you are very very thick[}:)]:(

I've started Bonnie a couple of times with one but if you haven't done it then be very careful, they can bounce back and give you a nasty kick - potential broken thumb[xx(] Best get a good battery:I
Brushes are not difficult to do, you just need to make sure the new ones go in the same way the old ones come out, and like I said you may need to do a bit of soldering.

Just had a new Bosch fit to my 2 litre diesel Rover, recommended by the garage who does my servicing. Of course you will have to measure the space it has to go into as car batteries come in all different sizes and shapes:( but don't get one of these dirt cheap one's as they are a waste of money.

I got Harvey's from the local tyre dealer nearly five years ago and is still going strong. It was for a Transit diesel, amongst others, but it was powerful enough, fitted in the hole and was less than £60. Make sure you get one with the highest cranking amps you can get with the terminals on the same side as what you have got with enough room to fit it where it needs to go. Have a look at your old battery and see what the rating is and see if you can get a higher one - but first make sure it's not the starter motor that's causing the problems.

I've got one of my mates coming to help me on Sunday as it's my wedding anniversary tomorrow, I'm gonna sleep in my commer tomorrow night, it's getting cold now though.

I think I've sorted it, firstly the charger is no good so it gave a false reading on the battery and the key wasn't engaging properly. I've had the barrel sorted and the van started first time. Just heed to tighten the terminals up.
