Don't worry. The Bluebird is nesting in a barn an hour north of Oslo, well out of harms way :)

We're fine, thanks. Of the three of us, I think Ebba had the hardest time this afternoon. She's in southern Germany doing concerts this weekend, and sent me a text from a traffic jam there asking
- "What has happened in Oslo?"
I had just got on the bus to return from work, and knew nothing (I work some 25 minutes drive north of Oslo). Then her next text arrived, saying
-"Apparantly, the Government offices have been hit by some huge explosion and the centre of town is a warzone. Use another route. God, I hope Vera is safe!".
She of course knew that Vera was in nursery about 10 minutes from the blast, so was obviously concerned.
Anyway, all I noticed was a lot of marked and unmarked police vehicles and a few ambulances passing my bus on the motorway towards Oslo in really insane speed - which I've never actually seen before.

Been through a few IRA bombs during my years in London, I avoided the tube and stayed on the bus to the centre of the city, got off and picked up Vera in nursery immediately. She was absolutely fine, but the nannies in nursery were completely shaken up. The building (massive precinct sort of area) had shaken properly during the blast, and they had already been warned that they may had to stay open during the night to look after the kids of aid workers.

Vera and I made our way home on foot, and Vera was very excited about all the emergency vehicles flying about. Little did she know that there was a crisis going on.

I've probably lived through too many bombs in my time to letting it get to me (sad and cynic as that is too, in a way), so I try not thinking too much about it. But there is an awful lot of noise out there, I must say. We live 150 yards from the police headquarters, and the police helicopters are landing and leaving again non stop. On the telly they're asking people with bloodtype 0- to contact the biggest hospital as they're running out of supplies due to the high number of casualties.

9 or 10 kids/teenagers have now been confirmed killed at this island where the Labour junior party held their annual summer camp, which is the biggest tragedy in this, I think. Shot dead by a cold-blooded maniac, by the sounds of it. There could be more, as there is a shuttle of ambulance helicopters going back and fro.

Parts of the centre of Oslo looks like a warzone, which you may have seen in the pictures. Reminds me of the Docklands bomb in the mid-90s, as the damage seems similar (substantial!). The worrying thing is that people still seem to be trapped in some buildings. The death toll in the centre of Oslo is still uncertain, apparantly.

So, all this has made it a different sort of Friday, you could say. Very depressing to witness such destructive powers in some people's minds.

But, to sum this long post up:
The three of us and two Commers are all ok :)

("The other Commer" hasn't been ok for years, of course, being the wreck that it is - but that's another story ;))

I thank god that you and yours are safe but pray for those less fortunate. This has really got to me.

Thanks :)

But as you say, Panky, even though we are ok, there are many that aren't.

We live about 15 minutes walk from the scene of the blast, so we were pretty lucky.

My sister's flat is about 5 minutes walk from the scene, and we think their windows may be blown out - like so many others. Luckily, they are on holiday with their 3 month old daughter, so well away from it all.

This constant helicopter traffic is driving me mad..

Don't be daft, you're already mad - you're a Commerfan[^] Made of stern stuff

Both Bernie and myself are thinking of you especially and everybody else in Oslo. Words can not express what we think of someone who can cause such devastation to innocent people, our thoughts are with you all. Please take care love Heidi

Yes, there are a lot of families out there tonight who are trying to cope with the pointless loss of their teenage daughter or son - or sibling. An unbelievable tragedy, and impossible to stomach, really.

A bomb is one thing, but the stone cold execution of almost 90 kids is just on another level. There are no words for this.

Dear Jostein you can be sure many many people in England are thinking of your country its men women and children at this time, there are no words or ways of trying to make sense of this crime , but to say at times like this we stand together with you and all those who have lost something so precious, we share in a collective sense of love and hope and sadness, a crime against any of our children in this world is a crime against humanity, at this time we must hold onto the thought that evil cannot destroy love and remain sure that the good in us is not dead, however much it may be tested. peace and healing to you all...... Captain Chaos.

Glad you and the immediate family are safe.

To put this in perspective in terms of loss vs population the UK would be mourning over 1000 lives lost so this is massive

They're still on holiday, but the flat should be ok. Some blown windows at some neighbouring flats, but my sister's should be ok.

Haven't been down there since last Saturday or Sunday when I checked it briefly. So many armed soldiers guarding the area, that I have no desire to return anytime soon.

Thanks everybody for kind words and concern. It is a week ago today, and I must say that the names of identified victims which they now broadcast on the radio and TV at 1800hrs every day - as more and more are formally identified - is heartbraking. You hear one named girl from a named town or area, 14 years of age, then a named boy at 16 years, girl at 21, bloke at 17... It just goes on and on. My heart really goes out to these families.

Likewise:( ....it makes one realise just how lucky one is and makes one think twice about taking everything for granted me thinks[B)]
