after a bit of faffing about, it not only started, but drove ok.. and now she's home looking really quite grubby and sorry for herself,

think the first job is going to be sourcing some new rear leaf springs, 2 ski seasons interspersed with fully laden 1000 mile trips have left them a bit .. um wavy .. and its lowered itself about 3 -4 inches !

and there's something dribbling out of the rear drums AGAIN.. i hate the back axle on this thing.

A lot of Commer owners would love a van that lowered itself 3-4 inches :p[}:)]

I guess the leak could be an oil seal worn on the axle shaft or your brake cylinders are leaking!..:(

Good news to hear though that your van made the 'heavily laden' journey! :D
 
i do like the lowered look, but its not much help in mud/snow i want the stock ride height but stiffer if i can .. [8D]

was told it had 2500 suspension fitted but how that differs is beyond me.

if its axle seals i'll be pissed, that axle cost me 500 quid to have re-conditioned, and its only covered 2500 miles ! (still whines like a sod too ! [V])

its probably the brakes .. again .. the wheel cylinders were re-built ones, but its been stood ages.

oh and the exhaust has fallen off.. sounds good though [}:)]
 
oh bloomin' heck - didn't keep the leaf springs from my old van when it was scrapped (2500 suspension with 10" wheels) [V] you would have been more than welcome to have them (if they were still holding after their long time off the road) along with complete axle - sorry mister - hope you find some:) I'll try and remember to ask my other half when he gets home tomorrow as he might know where you could get springs made in this area:)

thanks guys !

exhaust shouldn't be too much of a problem, its snapped between the two silencer boxes, but then i haven't actually looked at the state of the frontpipe yet ..so i'll get back to you on that, ive got some old bike silencers that may find their way onto the end of it :D

any help with reputable folk in the carmarthen area muchly appreciated as we've only been here a couple of months and dont really know our way round yet !

gonna have to order a welder and get busy though .. my car's on ebay and its the only thing ive got that drives..

i'll let you know.. the van has been somewhat sidelined this past week due to sunshine and a functioning motorcycle :) so apart from clear out the inside and look at the slowly rotting floor whilst "tutting" and drinking coffee, not a lot's been achieved.
 
Nice to see another British Racing Green van. I reckon the colour really suits such a noble and proudly British beast as the Commer.

If you're out & about on Sunday (3rd August) in the Cardigan area - I hope to be at Cardigan vintage show with Bessie and friends in their Highwayman so you're welcome to come for a cuppa and a commer chinwag - unless you're heading for Martins' place in Yorkshire where commer headcount should beat 2 [8D]

......and Racing Green is a superb commer colour, just need to supercharge one ready for the newly re-opened Brooklands circuit:)

Blue rock a great event - gone beyond my budget this year but have been in previous years and enjoyed immensely [8D] got some great local bands

i've been talked into it by my next door neighbour who makes/sells silverware on the festival circuit... think she just wants a hand putting the stall up ! lol ...

god im getting old .. ive had to be "talked into" a 3 day party .. garf .. :(

it's an event that covers all ages, even us oldies;) - I took my Mum for her birthday (growing old in a rolling stones type way) Went in Bessie & we had a great time. A good spot for a commer camper - bacon butties within earshot of the main stage, a good way to dine out:)
