A lot ! It nearly ruined me. Correction: It did actually ruin me, well and truly!

However, if the long awaited resurrection of the Newcastle - Bergen/Stavanger route should happen next year, then things needn't be all that bad. A return fare on that crossing would of course cost a fair bit - depending on which time of the year one chooses to travel, but should be a noticable cheaper than the crossings I just had to do.

The ferry from Harwich to Denmark set me back in excess of 360 quid alone, with cheapest cabin option chosen. The (rather tall) vehicle only accounted for 110 pounds, so the rest was the passenger fare.

Ferry from Denmark to Norway was incredibly cheap by comparison (110 pounds), but was a day crossing where cabin wasn't required - so there was a little saving of some 30 pounds just there.

Just worked out the total distance driven:

500 miles sharp !


270 miles covered in England, and 230 miles in Denmark.
And 1/4 mile from the port in Oslo to our home ;)
 
Hmm.. prior to set-off or after proper set-off? :I

En route, I had only three mishaps, actually. One carb cleanout (jets, to be more precise) in Downham Market, Norfolk, and one just north of Esbjerg in Denmark. Had starter problems 20 minutes from the port of Fredrikshavn in northern Denmark, but that was all, really. :)

That was after Martin had performed frequent surgery during a 24hr period.. :I
 
So you can't claim a minus mileage of 5 meters for being hauled up onto a beavertail:D

Took me nearly 2 hours, actually. That was 10 mins queueing for passport control, 10 mins drive home - and 1,5 hours in between stuck in the b****y customs! There was one customs official, and he was processing a load of lorries - plus a Danish race horse transport with 6 horses without their papers in order... Thought I'd be stuck all night, but they processed the Bluebird too - in the end.

The funniest thing was that when I escaped the customs building, I saw the ferry was leaving the port again - for Denmark. Initially, I thought that was an incredibly quick turnaround - until I realised that I'd be stuck in the customs for the best part of 2 hours ! [:(!]
