is anyone excited yet?

Just filled her up. Gauge was just about on empty but she only took just over 38 litres (x.22 = 8.4 gals).
Anyone know the capacity of the tank?

Oil and water checked and AOK.

Edit: Found an entry on here suggesting 10 gals, anyone able to confirm?

they always err on the side of caution with tank gauges, I remember watching top gear where jeremy drove a jag diesel - the computer said he had 2 miles of fuel but he drove another 100

however I dread to think of the cack in the bottom of the tank - probably want to leave that where it is!

Unfortunately a previous owner of my Imp (not
Andy Thowman:) ) decided to calibrate the fuel gauge. So when it reaches empty you're out of fuel. Guess how I found out? ;):D

I reckon it is about 10 gallons based on various fill ups. I wouldn't let it get too low:-

1) Mine seemed to sit on a quarter for a while (about 30 miles without really moving) on a trip out to run the fuel down before taking the tank off. I had under a litre left when I drained the tank. I would treat 1/4 as empty.

2) It seems that sludge in the tank is a potential problem.

We have water, oil and petrol plus a bunch of tools and some hoses and clips. However we are relying on undying optimisim and faith in the fact that commer gods will want all the vans to get back toghether.;) The van has had lots of TLC over the last 12 months so hopefully it will pay off.

Leaving tomorrow morning so fingers crossed, see the A1 Commervoy on Friday:p:p:p

I thought there was a bar so I am saving fuel by bringing less beer;) I haven't driven it so heavily loaded before so will be leaving plenty of space to the cars infront and praying on the hills:I

Normally I do treat 1/4 at time to fill up but the other day I didn't look and was nearly caught out!

do you not have an old washing machine on a chain to throw out the back for an emergency brake - bloody amateurs (hang on, mines still a pile of rust up on bricks at woolfies)

Ah, those seats!!! I mentioned them to Baz the other day, but couldn't remember who I'd bought them off :)

I am just about to head over to the workshop to meet baz so that I can fit the sealing ring to the exhaust (thanks a million Martin!). I was hoping to have use of the lift, but the landlord has a land rover on is so it looks like we're be using small ramps.

Also got the proper temp sender to fit so hopefully I will now know what temp the engine is running at. Yesterday saw fitting for socket for satnav and phone charger, refitting of aerial and putting the radio back in (80s vintage, but being a avid listener of radio 5, doesn't bother me). I was going to spend a pretty amount on a new unit from Halfords that I can connect my ipod to etc, but after spending 20 minutes in the halfords in Hemel, waiting for someone to show interest in my purchase - I gave up and went for the cheap option and refitted the old unit - whoich turns out to work just fine.

Apart from that I am going to take one very important item with me for the journey - my AA card.

See u tomorrow

I have the day off - originally for last minute commer checks, but now I can use it to bake cake instead :)
