Not as bad as the bottom hose on a Mini [xx(] I've still got the scars :I. Long arm and l...o...n...g screw driver so you don't have two arms wrapped around the fan - mind you the size of yours you'll never get them in :D

Ha ha!! I've still got my special 'e-x-t-r-a l-o-n-g lower hose screwdriver' from my Mini days!! It was a God send, but no good on the Commer as it's a Phillips head. Still reckon it's more awkward than a Mini's set up though...??
 
Hi guys; I've been busy nurturing the Tulip over the last few weeks. I've continued the big clean up, jet blasted her underside, flushed the cooling system through, renewed the brake and clutch fluids (boy did they need changing) and renewed ignition system components + fitted the Simonbbc electronic ignition module amongst other jobs. I can now claim that I've got a strong right wrist - greasing all 20+ nipples was draining, but an important job none the less.

Chamba's top tip - Soap impregnated brillo pads clean up rust a treat. I was really pleased with the result on my front bunk brackets.

One thing that holds true for any vehicle is that wheels maketh the car, so I was keen to get my crusty ones addressed ASAP. Namely, dropping them off for shot blasting and powder coating.

I hoped to save cash my removing the tyres myself. I managed to get the old spare off, but the 4 newer tyres defeated me [xx(]

The painted wheel looks great in the pic, but close up I could nitpick - the smoothest finishes are on the sides you can't see [V]. I won't be recommending the company I used, as the 1 week turnaround promised turned to close on 4 + their customer service was none existent [:(!]

And here's the wheel with the tyre fitted. I'm a big fan of white walls, so couldn't resist adding a set. Poor man's 18" rims I say! Soapy brillo pads work well on these too.

How long will they stay looking like this?? No excuse for missing any grease nipples in the future with these nifty yellow dust caps!

And here's what she looks like with her new boots. I absolutely love the look; maybe sure some of you will need convincing that white walls rock!? I bit the bullet and bought the pricey hub caps rather than the Baby Moons in the end - I'm hoping that the chrome on these will tolerate the British climate better.

Oh 'ello, what have we here? Here's Tulip with my other toy. Calm down, don't fret people, I've been into Commers far longer than I have Vdubs! :I The truck has been a real workhorse this week, ferrying the painted wheels all over the place for the sake of Tulip. Talk about chalk and cheese, but in my eyes they're both stunners in their own right.

That's all for now, but the work continues....

Where did you get the dust caps by the way, they are very useful:)

By the way I like the apex roof on the splitty in the last pic - a mod to cure a leaky gutter perhaps[}:)];)

I got my grease gun from there too; nice quality item and the only one I've owned that has ever worked properly!

They're in my loft! The missus is keen on them and wants me to keep hold of them for now, but I don't think they'll be going back on ;)[}:)], so I'll let you know if I'm selling.

You cant beat a bit of elbow grease, A job to be proud of.

You said a couple of months ago you put the wheel trims in the loft, would you be interested in selling one or more as we lost one of ours on our maiden voyage.
Or does anybody else have a spare one.

Hi Gladys Crew; Lancealot asked the same question, so he'll get first dibs before yourselves if I sell them - I need permission from the missus! :D
 
I only wanted them for spares as ralph had one missing when i originally bought him and i had to buy another commer to get a replacement, so if Gladys crew is missing one split them up IF you sell so everyone is happy....

I had a great weekend, managing to fit two car shows in two days and taking Tulip to both. We went to the Capel Village show which is fairly local to us on Saturday. This has a very impressive line up of vehicles for a small show and it also had an allotment grower’s competition + plenty of craft stalls to keep the missus happy! Only me there in a Commer [V], but we did park next to a distant relative (an old American Dodge truck). We also had our first cup of Commer tea and it tasted great! :D

I bumped into someone on the forum, only he couldn't remember his username. He's got a coach built conversion (I don't remember which) with rusty doors, so he took plenty pics of my slightly better ones for reference.

We also did the Cranleigh show with our friends (see other topic) which was better than ever with tons of cars and traders. I bought myself a chrome peep mirror (I like being able to see the kerb when I'm parking up!) which I don't think will fit [:(!] and a chrome period reversing light that I'll rig up sometime in the future. We did a big BBQ with the Commer keeping the food and beer cool, but using the VW's flat bed as the food prep area (well it's bigger and the right height!). Two good days all in all and lots of Commer interest.

If the weather holds, we might have our first sleep in the Commer this weekend; fingers crossed!
