INSURANCE!!!

Its really dis-heartening. Ive great luck with my every day car, a lil 1.2 Clio and my own insurance was really cheap. To be fair, we didnt really know how much it was going to cost, and our cheapest so far is £543 Fully comp (and i have been reassured that, that is the cheapest we are going to get with our age and the Commer.

I dunno, i was secretly hoping it was gonna be £200...

Can you take out 6 mth policys, since we will only be driving her for the summer months?

I think you can get six months insurance but they will probably charge twice as much [V] worth asking though, also ask for the different limited miles 1,000-2000 3000 5000 etc
I noticed the cheapest was fully comp will they do third party f & t or third party only [?]
hang in there keep trying :) have a look on just kampers web forum see if there is an insurance thread there may be worth trawling through the posts.
look on the bright side you won't get younger :I

Yeah fully comp was the cheapest, he said that they dont offer 3rd party insurance for a Commer or something like that, the chap spoke so fast i could barely pick up what he was saying...

I'll not give up hope, and we've got a bit of time while we fix her up :D

ive told people about this before but i dont think anyone tried them. ring up a company called (carol nash) they will be on the net they always come good for me. about six years ago i had a jaguar xjr supercharged, which was built by tom walkinshaw racing. it was great when i first bought it, right up until the time i wanted to insure it.i paid an absolute fortune through swintons and the likes, because it was in the same category as a ferrari , group 20, i paid (£1500) third party fire and theft for my first year and £1200.00 for my second. then one day i was at the nec classic car show and a guy from carol nash asked me if i wanted a quote for insurance. i told him that my car wasnt old enought to be a classic. so he asked what i had, and then told me that they also did a policy which covered cars which were over ten years old and it was called a cherished car policy. (i know i had never heard of this before either), until he told me. anyway he tapped away on the computer whilst i watched the elegant women go by and i thought this was going to be a waste of time, only to nearly fall on the floor as i nearly passed out when he said i could have insurance cover on the same car, fully comp with window screen insurance ,protected no claims, and a limited milage of seven or eight thousand miles per year, and all for the sum of £400.00. i was gob smacked. and couldnt belive that i had wasted all of that money in the first two years. so give them a try you have nothing to lose.i hope they can help you too.;):p

Hi Kelsey, a belated welcome from me to the forum - you young whippersnapper you;). Great to hear you've got yourself a commer but sorry to hear about troubles with insurance. Had a look with my company but again has the 25 age limit...[V]

hope you find a way around it - have a huge amount of sympathy for the younger driver, my partners' son is 17 and looking to get his first car - group one cheapest quotes currently at £1200 so was interested to hear you had good price on the clio - can I ask if you had it from 17 and if so, was insurance o.k then?

The annoying thing is - yes you get some nutty teenage drivers (think I might have been one of them:I) but I see a lot more aggressive looney businessmen in BMWs & Audis driving dangerously so why should the sensible teenagers lose out?

I recall a recent conversation with my father regarding his car insurance, he roughly worked out that over the years he had paid something like £15K in insurance premiums, he has never claimed.

It does make me angry when I see these police programmes on the TV and 8 out of 10 drivers caught have no insurance. Trouble is aswel many of them get away with it.

not surprising 8 out of 10 drivers have no insurance if they make it so expensive or unavailable to under 25's [:0]
should be more traffic education perhaps some of the council tax/road tax should go on driving lessons for the young especially in rural areas.

Just chatting to one of my friends at work and he was saying that his sons girlfriend recently had a car crash into the back of her at traffic lights, the lad got out the car and the first thing he said was that he was uninsured but as he was a panel beater he would carry out all the repairs for free, as you would expect.

It worked out ok for her but I would think that many uninsured drivers would never pay out anything if they hit you.

perhaps he was insured but because he could do the work he thought he would come out better off doing it this way,If she had phoned the police I wonder if he would have been insured. That would also be another car that has been in a rear end shunt that could be sold later the buyer would know nothing [:0]

Very true, down the line people wouldn't have a clue if a car has been shunted if it is not kept documented.
