im back ! lol

its been a while since i posted on here, 2 house moves and a whole load of other stuff have meant that the commer hasnt really seen much attention this year (well, ok i was living in it for a while, like dec to march but hey) ...

she fired up without much drama and had 5 new tyres fitted (first new tyres in the 5 years we have owned her) and my god what a difference modern tyres make to the grip/roadholding.. its .. um a LOT better ..

lol,.. so all was good as me and the mrs (and the cat and the dog and half our possessions) headed off on the journey to our new home 100 odd miles away across the brecon beacons (hereford to carmarthen) till we got to Abergavenny and the brake pedal went straight to the floor !!

No choice whatsoever but to carry on (2am, no tax, no MOT, no Insurance) and bless her she carried us without complaint the remaining 80 odd miles up and over the brecons and into carmarthen without drama using engine braking and occasional (twice) yanks on the handbrake ..

Brakes are now fixed (some lazy twat had forgotten to adjust up the rear shoes - wonder who?) and she's hopefully in for MOT next week as my glastonbury tickets have just arrived !

fraid 'twas I that omitted to sort the brakes, but no harm done and the brake fluid came out of the linings after some abuse with a blowtorch :)

reckon it'll just need some welding for MOT mostly it all works, but there's some extra ventilation and some "lightened" area's .. lol

like the Alfa ? its driving me bonkers getting parts.

this one's good fun too,

but dont be fooled its not as "trick" as it looks, its a write off with a sarcastic paint job :)

Hi, I know someone who has just returned his Alfa to the road after major restoration. I don't know how he got on with parts, but I know he fitted Lokari inner wheel guards to keep the car looking good. He gave me the details as I intend fitting them to my projects. I don't know whether you would be interested, but here is a link to their site.

interesting, I'll look into that... although strangely enough this alfa is almost completely rot free ! its done 17,000 miles from new, but the owner blew the head-gaskets and parked it up in a garage in 1996/1997, then it sat there till i bought the house ! so it needs a replacement/rebuilt engine, a new exhaust and a new lockset, and a respray because of a few scratches.

Hiya Zimm, welcome back - if you are now based in Carmarthen then it's good to know the Western Welsh region has another Commer - you're fairly close to us in Cardigan and even closer to Klixs' owners in Llanboidy. Afraid I don't have any Alfa parts lurking around for you[V]

Good luck with MOT and new home - hope to catch up with you somewhere sometime;)

:) :)

Llanboidy and Cardigan eh ? that really is quite local !

we nearly bought a place at cefn y pant .. then the property market went BOING CRASH WALLOP and we thought better of it so are renting in Cwmduad opposite a pub :)

im going to try and find the time to get the van out at the weekend and see what's what.. she drives ok but MOT testers can be picky little people.. off to a track day at pembrey circuit tomorrow, so making my bike work is the priority until then.

good luck with MOT - enjoy Pembrey and exploring, there are some good places for commer camping dotted about the countryside ;)

I'm off for a couple of days in the tent to Church Bay in Anglesey next week. A bit of solitude and cliff walks[8D], pity Harvey isn't up to it yet [V].

But not for gout[xx(], red wine that is.
A couple of days with tent and boots is just what I need [^]

Haha!..im sure youll manage, i have one similiar...you wake up in the morning with yer feet outside and yer face stuck to the side of the tent..Overnight all the spiders, flies and crawly things have realised its the coolest place to be :D

ping ..

same again .. few years in storage after an aborted attempt at getting it back on the road in late 2008 and now i'm trying to fix her up with borrowed tools whilst living in her in a friends field.

why oh why oh why (points of view voice) didn't I fix the van when I had a fully equipped workshop and was meant to be restoring classics for a living ?

still, she doesn't seem to have suffered much for the time spent dormant.. the starter was always marginal, and had died.. so was duly replaced, and with much charging of batteries and wielding of jump leads she's running again :)

the brakes seem to work as well/badly as they ever did, the rust doesnt seem any worse, all the plywood bits of the pop-top need re-making, and i've found a box of assorted parts i must have bought last time i started to fix her up.

Welcome back to the Madhouse[8D] Glad to see you haven't been cured, even if your circumstances have changed a bit:I
