Ignition timing..

Just wondered what you guys are running regarding the ignition timing?.

The big book states the following...

Premium grade fuel 9-11 deg BTDC

Regular fuel 6-8 deg BTDC

Obviously fuel had changed since the book was written and wondered if anybody had any other recommendations..

I'm sure some one will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that current unleaded petrol is about the equivalent of old two star so I would tend to set the timing on the retarded side and tweak as required. Can't see you dizzy on the pics but mine has a fine adjustment built in with a thumb wheel on the side of the body, give a couple of degrees adjustment I think so you can twiddle on the run so to speak. Also there are some lead replacement additives with an octane booster but I haven't tried them so can't give more details :). Engine bay looks damn good [8D]
 
You only need to retard the timing if your getting pinking (pre-detination)

FYI
Unleaded is around 95 octane
Super Unleaded around 98 octane
Four Star around 97 octane


I'd go for a happy medium of about 9 deg BTDC and run on normal unleaded. Oh and forget lead additives, because although vavle seat recession does happen, its takes summat like 100k to do any harm!
