ignition timing marks

Hi

need to check the ignition timing on my van . i beleive its about 9 degs BTDC. cant seem to find the marks on the timing cover . wheres the best vantage poing to see the marks ? where are they? and is 9 deg about right (i have LPG fitted)

There should be either seven or thirteen pointers on the pulley itself each 5 degrees before TDC - to line up with a notch on the timing case. The manual shows access to the marks down the left hand side of the engine looking from the rear but this thread by BMM shows the opposite :I
