Identifying my engine please.

I’m wondering if you guys could offer some expert help and tell me if my engine is a 1494 or a 1725.
It’s a 1961 vehicle and is shown in the readers rides post.

I understand that you the main crank bearings increased from 3 to 5 with the 1725 but i think I can count 5 oil galleries along the bottom right with the middle one holding the pressure or temperature pick up (not sure exactly what that is...).

Hi Adam, as Martin has confirmed you have a 1725 lump residing in your engine bay and good on you for identifying it as you did. It looks like a connection for a pressure gauge has been teed in to the oil pressure sender take off.

The van I thought was semi-original is turning into a not so original van. For the best though!

All the ancillarys like water pump, fuel pump etc...are they the same as the 1500cc or will I have to find different parts now?
Haven’t bought anything yet just have them all written down.

Also I want to go the Davies Craig EWP80 electric water pump conversion.
In your opinion what’s the best water pump/manifold to do this? I don’t really want to buy a brand new belt driven pump just to rip the impeller off and weld up one end.
Are there any other solutions to get that set up?

I've fitted a Davies Craig pump, works great, a bit of a squeeze to get it in but worth it. I didn't bother with a speed controller just drilled a couple of holes in the thermostat. You can either take the spindle out of your old mechanical pump and get the hole welded up (what I did) or make a blank up with an elbow attached to replace the old pump completely

You will then need to find a shorter belt to drive the alternator,
 
Panky thanks for that! Obviously you also installed an electric cooling fan as there would be no drive for the fan on the front of the water pump with the spindle removed? Did you install the fan in front of the radiator for push cooling as opposed to behind?
 
Ah yes I forgot about that. I fitted it behind the rad as a puller is more efficient than a pusher - I did need to move the rad forward a bit to fit it in though. You could always just take the impeller off the mechanical pump and leave the fan (as long as the pump is leak free) but you save a couple of horses by removing the mechanical fan, and it's a bit quieter without it too.
