It's a Barkas. 1 litre 3 cylinder 2 stroke! I looked at one of these and a Skoda 1203 before seeing sence and settling for the Dodge.
I sorted my garage into 4 piles of stuff.
1. Stuff I`m keeping
2. Stuff I`m not getting rid of.
3. Stuff I might use..one day.
4. Stuff that might come in handy.

When I was a teenager, my friend's dad had a Wartburg Knight, the estate version of the 353. I remember the two stroke engine sounded like a sewing machine and left a fine trail of blue smoke.

I remember me and a mate drove to Berlin in 1990 to see "The Wall" show with Roger Waters and a load of celebs. The show was not that good, to be honest, and the highlight was when Sinead O'Connor threw a strop and walked off stage in the middle of her song.. That one is trouble, wherever she goes. Anyway, we drove down from Norway to Germany in my poo-brown '76 Mini 1000 with deck chairs and stuff on the roofrack, but still managed to pass the Trabants and the odd Wartburg on the autoroute between Hamburg and Berlin.
One of the things I remember particularly well, was the morning rush in East Berlin. We had been "sleeping rough" in a park in East Berlin one night together with a couple of Dutch girls, as it was completely impossible to find a hostel with vacancies. To this day, I still remember driving from East to West Berlin that very morning and sitting at traffic lights for ages with burbling and spluttering 2-stroke engines left, right and centre. And really bad exhaust smoke from these inefficient combustion engines.. I can best describe it as a funny concert, sitting in the middle of a band playing a chaotic but still strangely repetitive tune

Don't get me started on the subject of Roger Walters. He should be kicked out of the country.
Funnily enough, I had a couple of friends go to that concert in Berlin, but they claimed that it was fantastic. But they were Americans I was sharing a flat with in Madrid at the time, and they lived on a different planet.

Skoda sold the presses to a company called TAZ who built them into the 90`s. A company bought the presses off them and make 6-7 a year.

Yes, Roger Waters - a chapter we may as well forget about (at least post-Floyd).
If you ask me, that concert was a disaster in more ways than one. I remember there was this charity which was meant to get the proceeds from it all. Rumours had it that the cost in the end was so huge that the charity itself had to foot parts of the bill rather than getting anything from it. I really hope that wasn't the case. And I also remember that the show was televised, as a few mates back in Norway saw it and thought it was great! However, it was actually the dress rehearsal the night before (at least the sound) which was televised. Think we saw it later on video, and heard sections there which were totally without sound on the actual concert. They had huge technical problems, and it was generally a farce the whole thing.
We never admitted that to folk back home, of course, as we'd forked out a fair few bob to get there and back + concert tickets and everything. So we kept the real story under tight lid. [8D]
Great trip it was, though !
