how to maximise double bed area

OK. So I have the pop top commer, which has a 3 seat bench seat in the cab behind which is a fixed wooden divide into rear of the van. To make sleeping more comfortable and hubby more happy, when we place the table between the 2 bench seats in the back and convert to a bed, we only have the width of the van to sleep on, meaning arms/legs need to be curled around or stuck out of side windows to fit. 1 am I doing something wrong and 2 has anyone adapted their van to get over this? Possibly taken fixed wooden divide out so can be removed allowing feet over engine? Ideas would be appreciated

Behind the rear bench seats there are hinged wooden backings (the table lives behind one) do you fold these flat when you make the bed up. You will get the full six feet across the van then.
 
On Harvey the wooden divide was the back of the bench seat that folded down into another big bed in the cab. There should be a bolt at either side of the wooden bench back that do into holes in the door frame, undo these and the front seat base should lift and move forward (with a bit of a struggle) pulling the back of the seat flat so the whole thing forms a bad. It's a two man job, one either side, and watch your nails;)
With the front bench down and the rear bed made up you get a huge six foot wide and eight foot long bed, but there's a bit of a hump in the middle where the two beds meet:)
We tried it for a couple of nights but it was a right faff putting it all up.

 
Wow. I'm jealous of that... Whilst in my Maidstone I only get a narrow double is just over 6 ft so long enough... Though my feet dangle...
 
Who made the blanket Panky? I've got fixed cupboards behind my seats so wouldn't be able to make the big bed.
 
Thanks for all your help. I think my wooden divide is fixed but tomorrow's job with hubby is to take cab apart and find out. Ace job.
 
Well. I have a very happy Hubby. Our weekend trials revealed that my divide between the cab and the back area is indeed fixed...but we have a double bed in the cab and a double bed in the rear, so he is happy - finally he gets a bed of his own and apparently, he can sleep in the cab whilst I make the tea!!! Honestly. If anyone has had a similar scenario And Has Adapted Their Van To Join The 2 beds Together Or Has Any suggestions To Bridge The Gap, Please Let Me Know
