Hot Commers

dont matter wot wheels you put on a vw coz they dont need to go round as the recovery trucks wheels do that :D ..

I get livid every time I see a "corporate" veedub but then I bask in the glow that it keeps prices down for us :D

New to this whole scene, but I'm guessing through some subtle clues that the old Type 2 is a piece of blasphemy.

Have to say a nice pimped up Commer would make that thing look weedy and boring anyday. Now to find someone who has spent all the cash on one :p.

Glad you guys like my personal taste though, the overall look rather than that particular vehicle.

Thought it would be mostly purists on here losing the will to live at the thought of maybe altering the Commer to something other than when it was factory original.

no worries ryan, very few factories got everything right, there is always room for improvement especially with all the modern components there is available :), never could see the point of spending money renovating a poorly designed component when there is a much better option available.

talking of the " v word" one of the problems with the engine is they strip the threads out of the crankcase head bolts, this is due to crap design the bolts being about 10" long and of low expansion steel, so they do not expand with heat and pull the thread out the ali crankcase [xx(].
they had the same problem with the porsche 917 race car in the 60,s, it was overcome by making the bolts out of "dilvar" an alloy with a high co-efficient of thermal expansion which followed up the barrel as it expanded with the heat, even then they found the bolts had to be wrapped in a thermal insulator to maintain sufficiently high temperatures to expand the bolts without overstretching them [B)] one good reason to own a commer instead :D

'Divlar' that's what we used to call the unfortunates who did not conform with our strict code of conduct at school (delivered with a strong scouse accent) 'yer a div laaa'

Co-efficient. Is that running along side real efficient, sort of almost efficient :I
