Holbay

We in Australia know the Holbay name from the 60,s , their main feature was a completely different combustion chamber with small ports .I see people talking about their Hunters with a new Holbay motor . Is the firm still operating , and what do they do to the engines to make people talk about their motors with such reverence ??

The Rootes Holbay engines had heads as you described and produces quite a bit more power than the standard alloy head engines and, as with other marques with links to specialist tuners, soon became very sought after and desirable. Holbay Race Engines Ltd still exists as part of Dunnell Engines (run by Paul Dunnell, son of one of the co-founders) who absorbed the name after the co founder John Read died in a plane accident.
