Holbay Lump

Ever tried setting up twin forties?
And if you have, then how was the fuel economy?
And if that was OK, could you stand the noise?..................... Although it is a lovely noise:)

There easy to set up once you know what your doing lol :D

Steve wears ear defenders in his van ☺
Only because rich decided he wanted to use foam socks on the end of the ram pipes. If you build type of plenum like in the h120 later cars then duct to an air box there alot quieter. After all my work on the td route I feel it would loose a bit of its old quirkyness and fun. The holbay is a rootes engine in a rootes vehicle so its right for the job. Now do i fit stadard holbay or a marathon holbay 1850cc. Either way one is going in my h120 and the other in my van. I'm planning going full holbay with twin 40s, od gearbox and super snipe axle. I've got all the bits just need some time and to take me van off the road, trouble is I keep using it!
How's yours running now Jim??

not the td then now Jon. Sure you could sell it on... Was just about ready to drop in wasn't it?

mine running cracking, v quick in commer terms with the mods unfortunately it not making the right oil pressure once really warm and also breathing, it started running rough on an early run out, dodgy dizzy cap... Washed the bores I reckon. Anyway I've took it out again tonight and back to the builders this week for a quick turn around... I'm an expert out in 5 hours! They're going to do it free I think. Bought a second new oil pump as I'm sure the first new one was out of tolerance.. This time from Speedies. Missus is Off to Whitby first week of august so needs sorting.

on another note..its had horrible banging over bumps and found to be the central steering arm having vertical movement by 0.30mm it was anew one last year. I guess you can just shim them up...there's a thick factory washer in there already. Anyone know if these came in different sizes? Cheers

Oh dear Jim sorry to here that sounds like a nightmare. Bet you wish you just left it as it was now! Yeh the td wasn't far away I'm still going to develop it when I've got time I want to make some mounts for the Isuzu engine as well before I scrap my rolling chassis I've been using to do it all on.

TWO Holbay lumps:eek: you naughty, naughty boy:cool:
You can never have to many holbay lumps!! Got a spare lancia deta integrale engine lying around as well. I've heard they fit to a Fiat 131 sport gearbox for rear wheel drive mounting. A commer integrale that would be fun!

Old one had defo had it so needed doing. Should have waited and took your TD engine ;)

Jon - did you put lowish profile tyres on your van I seem to remember to drop it? what sort of profile height did they have and did it affect top end badly in your opinion? Just now with the roof on I have to let the air out tyres to get it in the garage which it a right pain in the ass.

I fitted 15inch American racing wheels on back 10j wide and wolfrace on the front 7j wide ive got 225 wide tyres on the rear and i think 195wide on the front. Not to sure of the profile would have to have a look. I played about with that many different size tyres to get the same rolling radius as the original 14inch wheels and tyres so I wouldn't loose speed lol. It just looks alot lower!
