Right I may have had a glass of wine ( or two ) but I am off on the annual trek to the sun (??) for two weeks in the summer. Now rather than chase the surf/sun in france my better half would like to head for cornwall. Given the brit summer ( I'm a paddy I can say that!) the obvious choice would be a campervan. I love the old commers and having had an old sunbeam alpine before I am pretty sure they have there or thereabouts the same engine. Anyway I am rambling ( blame the rioja) but does anyone anyone know of a firm that hires these bad-boys out for a family consisting of one paddy, one scoucser, one 11 year old , 1 year old and a mutley ( the dog ). I would buy one but a) your buying forum is full of people saying don't buy that one and b) I would be told that to sell the tacky old tvr that is rotting in the car park.

Your'e right about the engine, except most commers have the more agricultural cast iron headed engine, which is fine, but not much good for lively performance through the country lanes.
Got any piccies of the TVR? Which one is it? How's the wiring

The ones we are trying to put people off are those belonging to forum regulars, we are just trying to show them the error of their ways to even consider selling. But we are always glad to welcome new members and there are plenty of 'undiscovered' gems out there - so go find one

Ok Daryl, how about this - you can come and rent my van and stay up in Scotland on my drive. You have free use of the loo and all the scotch pies and vegan cakes you can eat. If Jessica (the van) gets sorted you can go for trips in the local area.

I do know of a street in Edinburgh where you can take your pick of a load of campers for sale (no commers though)

OK OK Whilst I too am a newbie I would like to point out that I had thought about hiring out old campers as a side line. However after looking in to it I came to the conclusion that the reason that we special people own commers is because they require that little bit something else to keep them running.
Expecting a member of Jo public to keep mine running would involve me having to give them a mechanical aptitude test and see if they have ever driven anything with out power.... well I was going to say steering but I think I'll leave it there.
I think your best plan would be look up VW camper hire and try your hands at them. The main benifit of that would be that the machines they use though look retro are actually only a couple of years old.

you've got a point there... a brand new Brazilian type 2 is going to be a much less challenging holiday than a 40 year old Commer.
