Hints for setting my selectors

My gear selector is now missing revers, up until yesterday all gears were in the right place and surprisingly easy to find “for a comer”.

If I pull over to get revers it’s just selecting 4th. If I put my arm in the engine bay and lift the rod myself it goes in revers easily. It would seem my gear stick isn’t forcing the rod over any more.

Anyone have any hints, tips or ideas?

Or even better a overdrive box to sell me ;-)

Hi, my terminology isn't great but........near the gearbox you will see a thin rod with what looks like a small track rod end....undo the bolt and try turning the ball joint 1 turn clockwise, then nip the bolt up and try to select reverse...if it makes it better but not great, try turning it another 1 turn.....if it's worse then try turning the ball joint anti clockwise instead.....just a bit of trial and error.....the ball joints are plastic so do wear out but Martin Maltas sells them and I think he now sells brass ones too. There is a special tool for setting them up which Martin also has which he he may or may not lend you...hope that helps:)

Check the two main bushes in the linkage as if they have slop you will lose movement. :)

It has very recently been set up using Martins tool (by Mark who used to own it). This is why I'm a little worried it has just stopped working over nightas if something has broken. It was a really good selectors, very positive and easy to find gears. Now I just can't reach revers and 3rd keeps not being where I want it.

Another thing to check is directly under the gearstick (can get to it by unbolting the whole unit from the floor or from under the van). There is a connection to the main shaft held with a bolt that can come loose especially if someone hasn't used wire to lock the bolt in. I lost 3rd completely and could just get reverse with a lot of trying. Tightened this up and it was all good again.

Hasta la supervista baby

Jimberlake. You were spot on. Just got home from the garage, I set to adjusting the linkages, then thought I best check the lock bolt at the front (as you suggested). You were exactly right, it was just about to fall out!
Thank you, you saved me a night of pointless work.
