Highwayman rear step

Can anyone tell me how far the rear sliding step is supposed to extend?

The bracket underneath is 29” long, yet the step only extends 9”, and that’s the full size of the step.

I peeked underneath and the ‘slider’ section is 19”

I wonder if this was a rebuild?

Cant say for sure but it looks about right to me.

I had someone comment on how narrow the step is, you have to turn your foot sideways to step down, and I have small feet.
There seems to be structure to acomodate a deeper step.

You could be right, this one looks deeper, no idea if it's original though.

But then there's these that looks like they could be original.

I imagine it’s a part that would be very susceptible to rust/ corrosion, what with being underneath and flat.
Once the torrential rains let up I may be able to crawl under to see if there’s any evidence that suggests a different size.

The photos are wonderful - I adore this little camper!
