Hi, we found a commer

hi we went to see this van the other day. it was a fair old hike to find it but the quary is a pretty interesting place to look around - got some great photos of some pretty delapidated buildings and rusty JCBs...
the commer is a PB highwayman. where it has been turned on it's back the fibreglass shell has shattered so it just sits on the cab roof and the back of the chassis. obviously everything on the underside is very rusted so i doubt there is much to be had away now but i'm not much of a mechanic so i guess it's hard to know what's salvagable. by the time we got to it after lugging tools up it was starting to get dark. the bumper was actually in better condition than ours but the bolts were rusted - even with a good amount of wd40 and a torque wrench couldn't shift them, especially as the bolt started to spin in the bumper...[V]
in the end i had to just cut through the brackets and removed the bolts at home - i figured that would be a lot easier than trying to do anything whilst balancing on the top of a rather wobbly and precarious commer van. i was expecting my leg to go through the rusted metal at any moment...
we got the O,M and R off and found the two headlight surrounds which were also in better nick than ours believe it or not!!
i wanted to get the front grill for BigMonkeyMan but the grill part was rivetted in and i knew i was going to damage it trying to remove it. i have the surround tho which i'd be more than happy to mail out to you if it's any use...
i really don't think there's much else to take, you won't get a vehicle in there to move it/turn it over - the seats are rotten and the bottom of the doors are completely rusted out.

can't think of anything else to add but if you'd like some more info or some better directions i can help...
if anyone needs a front bumper - pretty rusty/tarnished but could be rechromed/painted or the three letters or the headlight surrounds then give us a shout - free to the first bidder - you'll have to pick up the bumper tho, it's a bit big for royal mail!!

Well done Weir!!! The surround is the bit I'm mainly after!

Interesting find.. I caught the end of a classic (ha..) episode
of Robins Nest on sky the other week (sad git!!).
(Ask yer dad about said program if under 35..)
I gather that the one armed washer upper had bought a mobile cafe,
( which was built on a green Commer PB Highwayman ) !!
In classic Ealling, Brit crap comedy style, he explained to Robin
that the handbrake did not work, but he had a housebrick on a string..
You can guess what happened. [:0]
It rolled off, over the edge of a quarry..????
I wonder....?;)
