Hi new here hope you all can help

Nothing that can't be fixed don't panic I am glad it done it now than when me my wife and daughter where going for a holiday. It's a setback but not the end, we can rebuild make it better make it stronger

Head is off all looks good on the cylinders, cyl3 looks a bit washed now to knock em out, found front to end movement on the crank about 3mm

OK right!!!! In first place is cyl 3 with next to nothing left in a close second is cyl 2 cyl 1 and 4 scoring but after having a good long look and talk with them I am happy to say that both cyl played any part of the knock on the lid and run away but all is sacked from there duty's along with the main bearing management as I found most of them where slacking in there roll so that being done there is a large opening under my engine for 5 new manager bearings and 4 labourer bearing all applications must come with there gasket sets.IMG_20230508_130826.jpg

Ouch  An Paul said he fitted a new engine all those years ago:confused:
To be honest it's all new and clean Inside I think the running in oil was still in her that's what the problem is or I have play on the crank sideways so the shimes are not right that has let the crank slide burning out the big ends? Ether way it's getting new bits all round I seen a core plug with rust round it so looks like I am doing a full rebuild emotions of my day lol

Yep rusting core plugs are common, the one behind the flywheel and the rearmost one under the manifold especially.
That's the one under the manifold think I am going to do them all with a clean out and steam lean just start fresh with a block and work from there. So much for a set of shells lol

The back of the block around No4 bore gets full of silt, and casting sand can still be in there from when it was made, so well worth scraping it out and getting the jet washer in there.

Does anyone know how to tell what the engine comes from or year with the engine number I might need a crank as cyl 3 is ovel or what 1725 fits. Regards ryan

That's bad news but I'm pretty sure all 1725's used the same crank from start to finish of production. The same engines were also used in the saloons of the period so if you get one out of a 1725 Hunter etc it will fit.
1500 and 1600cc engines used a shorter stroke crank.
