Hi liesa, welcome to the forum.
I`m sure as you find your way around the forum,you will find it an amazing source for information on everything Commer related.
I personally have a derivative of the original Commer. Still made by the Rootes company,but during the 1970`s the company was taken over by Chrysler,who made slight changes to the Commer including the name.They started to badge them up as Dodges,which is why mine is a Chrysler Dodge.
If you take your time in reading back through some of the first entry`s on the forum,you will find a few pictures of other members rides,where you will spot the difference i`m sure.
There are quite a few characters on here,who i`m sure will be in touch before long. I`ll see if i can introduce one or two of them to you.
I should start with John,AKA (admin)without him we would not be conversing, All hail John.
Martin Maltas,he who knows most,if not all about our vehicles. Well more than we do! Possibly our best source of information.
And Woolfy,the saviour of all things metal,if you need any body panels for your ride he`s the man to ask.

could someone take a look at that and tell from the pics if i am to anticipate any major rusties? and would it pass its MOT with no bumper(if anyone has experience of this i would be SOOO grateful)

Hi, depending on the type of bumper, I could supply a later large one. As far as rust, around the windscreen base, door step panels, cill areas (if yours has them under the body), jacking points, front valance, floor pans and spring hangers(see minibus dismantling)[:0]

It's obviously very difficult to tell from a few photos, might be an idea if you can get it to a garage for an MOT and find out the true story. If you have a local one you an trust try them or failing that ask around and check out others experiences, I found that word of mouth is the best way to find a good garage not promises of a cheap job in the small adds. From the overall look of the van in the pics it looks pretty solid apart from the door step and if the ebay description is accurate then you may be pleasantly surprised, looks like a camper that has been well cared for. Welcome to the club
thanks for the advice, does anyone have any idea roughly what a replacement step might cost and if i will get the work done before the end of the month.. i am hoping to take her out for a short break, the description says she is mechanically great so i hope its just welding... gosh i am getting so boring about her lol

Hard to give you an accurate price really, as NOS panels sometimes turn up but will cost you dearly, reproductions are available, there was some on Ebay recently but the word was they wernt such a good fit.Woolfy on the forum here should be able to supply you with a good fitting panel, best to message him really.I would think your best option is to book an MOT asap, and then youll know exactly what needs attention, then you can get stuck in and get out in her this summer.

but yes i would REALLY really appreciate you looking DOT over when I get her back. I am going up there by train on friday and driving her back as I do have her booked into the garage friday afternoon for an mot so they said it was legal for me to drive her.

hi there guys its good to see your all trying to help this nice lady out with her van, it looks a cracker i wish i owned it.wellcome to the club anyway new owner,and dont worry about that step if you need one im sure i can get one made for you,it might just need some small repairs doing to itthough so dont worry to much. any way how is everybody ive been away for the weekend to see some friends in london but im back now guys,i see you have all been busy chating away to each other i hope i havent missed much,as you will probably all know by now as panky pointed out im selling my beloved mk2 jag on ebay at the moment, its a sad week for me but hay we all have to make these tough choices in life dont we. ive got a few people interested in it anyway so fingers crossed,some of the money will be wisely spent on the commer van though so its not all bad news after all,im thinking of trying to fit a truimph 2.5 s engine and gear box into it this summer some time, hopefully it will fit as it is a straight six cylinder engine. ive had lots of theses triumphs and one thing i will say for them is that they are as strong as an ox and have plenty of power to give ,and they are so easy to work on so watch this space,anyway sorry for high jacking this post guys but every one else seems to do it ha ha.[8D]
