Help please

Hi, can anyone help?

Just put brand new water pump on and no leaks but got a horrid knocking noise

cazz is out so I haven't got anyones number to call and ask

Tim, Martin, Panky, Steve??

Managed to speak to Martin, who reckons the crank pulley may be loose!

On that theory I thought to myself, so if I slacken the fan belt, it should go quieter ....and it does, so will let it cool down and go and take the radiater off and see if I can tighten it

fingers crossed everyone...................

He's taken rad off and the crank pulley seems ok anything else he should try before rad goes back on :)

Cazz...Missing Smurf being on the road now!!!!

was the knocking there before the water leak?if not cant see any reason why thecrank pulley would be knocking
is the fan on properly and all 4 bolts tight?
is there water in the engine?
is the alternator tightly fitted on its slide allowimg about 19mm of play in the fan belt
if all else fails call the aa if you have home start

Thanks Steve, things seem to be ok now, took rad off and then tightened everything up again just to be sure... She has to be ok as 1st time away in her on our own next weekend, can't wait :D

just let her warm up on tickover umtil the temp gauge is in the middle, that means the thermostat should be open and water circulating around the engine,if its not leaking then it should be fine.let her cool down and then refill the rad with more water/
then give her a few miles taking some water with you just in case.not toofar about 5/6 miles just to get her warm.then let her cool again and recheck the water
if alls well then its mended!!!

We will take her out tomorrow, we will def be taking extra bottles of water out with us, wherever we go in the future lol... and some spares, just in case... Can't wait just to get out in her again, have really missed her!

Thanks Steve and of course Martin

All seems ok now!

Cazz you can stop missing Smurf being on the road noow!!

Well, not really sure. just took rad off and tightened everything up, only thing a bit loose was the fan pulley, even then only maybe half a turn on each bolt. There's still the tiniest bit of play when gripped hard and 'wiggled' is this normal?

Not really - have you put the washers back under the bolt heads?
Unless it's just the fan blades flexing in your manly grasp : )

Thats what i think it was, but i wasn't here and Colin said it wasn't that type of knocking [?]... Took Colin twice as long as me just to change the pump lol, and she wouldn't start for him 1st time last week, but she did for me lol, thought that was funny :D

Cazz...Is smiling again!!!!!

Yes all washers went back. It feels more like the play is actually on the shaft of the water pump, as I say its minimal

Yes twice as long but twice as properly lol

Only joking Cazz I'm really proud of you and it's really cool that you share the passion with me and want to get your hands dirty[8D][8D]

When i fitted my CI w/pump i had to put a spacing plate between the end of the pully shaft flange and the fan as the shaft stuck out further than the old one and the fan wouldn't sit up against the flange properly.

back to my "rootes"

Trev. That was the problem with Smurf. you hit the nail on the head!

The olay was minimal and on tightening the bolts I actually squashed the fan, bent it a bit

I was careful to only tighyen th bolts a half a turn at a time and oppsite bolts to each other. It hasn't mis-shapen the fan and it still spins freely so hopefully will be ok
