Well I an in the states and looked up the power steering mob ,they are UNI STEER the unit they sell is about 400$ with the control box. It is about 8 inches wide with the motor being about 2 inches dia and you would need to remove about 5 inches of your column.You could point the motor forward and it would be out of your way .THE control box is stand alone and about 4 inches square.The unit comes with splines out of each end so you would have to get your shaft cut and splined.The unit works by having a torque sender that moves up a ramp as load increases ,this is measured by a torque sensor that varies the power going to the motor that drives a pinion that drives a nylon gear on the steering shaft. In a modern car as the speed increases the power is reduced ,They us this circuit to give you a knob to allow you to vary the amount of assist you want .I plan on buying one, but wont be home for 2 months to fit it
