Heater Taps

This one is for the Commer owners out there, none of you posh dodge owners that have a dash controlled heater tap.
So I was just wondering what the standard tap looks like, I'm not convinced mine is right. Or what have you guys used as heater taps?

That's a plumbers gate valve:I The standard tap is fitted to the head, a bit of a PIA to turn on and off. The late vans had a cable operated valve, similar to on Minis, attached to a sliding control under the dash.

It's a bit industrial but not a bad idea as the original heater 'control' is a brass tap screwed into the cylinder head:I

Oh right :-/ I new mine was a bit industrial but it beats the original by the sounds of it. I quite like it now. Or tho I may look into fitting a later system like on the dodges. One good thing about mine now is it helps to keep the heater pipes up and out the way :)

Love that idea, I've got the head mount on a Dodge as the cables ones are all missing and struggling to find replacement ones...don't suppose anyone has a set for sale from a scrapper do they? Bit of a long shot I guess otherwise I'll look at this set up.

I think that plumbers tap is a great idea although being a stickler for keeping it original i will stick with the head mounted tap.:)
I suppose[8)] you could rig a universal heater tap like this one and place it in the hose near the heater inlet and just put a nipple where the old tap used to be on the head.

and fit a universal lawn mower throttle assembly like this one and mount it under the dash.

Hey presto! why didn't Rootes do that?
ooh that's right a heater was an optional extra, here in OZ anyway.;):D

In Thailand at the moment in the jungle, amazing where they have WIFi nowadays!... so looks like me a Aussie can chat at similar times ;).

Quite like the idea of a big screw valve to turn the heater on -feel like I'm about to dive a submarine :)

Thanks for the info. UK Taxis and minis had very similar so will most likely end up with one of these set ups if I can't find the originals anywhere.

Cheers
