Heater plumbing

While waiting for the diodes etc to turn up to finish indicators I’ve decided to attempt renewing heater pipes as the top one’s very perished as it’s bent 90 deg. It’s the pipe that comes out the top. Probably yet again proving that someone with a little knowledge is dangerous lol. Am I right in assuming the top one (with the tap that actually works) is the flow and the lower one in engine is the return? I’m hoping it has the 3 ridges for flow and 2 for return on heater matrix. Thanks in advance

Yup the flow is from the tap on the head. This inlet should go to the bottom of the heater or you'll get an air lock.

Finally got round to finishing. I teed in a central heating drain cock to help with filling. I had to use a hand fluid pump in the end. Disconnected return, turned of flow and pumped hoses full. Then reconnected return and opened up flow and filled till radiator was full. Started him up with no leaks and a hot flow and return. Yahoo!
