Heater box part

Hi,

Reading the other heater box threads I now know the basic function of the heater matrix and the front opening vent.
My heater box seems to be in great nick and was blocked off at the back with a piece of plywood.
My question is what is the part that gets the air from the circular hole at the back of the heater box to the two air inlets each side of the heater matrix?
Photos attached of the pieces.
Cheers

Hi Adam. Is the black part the heater box you took out? If so it's not a Commer one but looks more like one out of a Mini or Morris Minor - they are actually better than the Commer version.

Yea the black part is the heater fan with grills that the heater hoses were attached to. That was fitted under the dash.
It was wired in.
The greenish yellow thing is the box that was attached to the front vent behind the upper grill.
The rear circular hole was completely blocked off so maybe the previous owner just used the newer mini heater and blocked off the old vent inlet.

That sounds exactly what's been done the piece with the round hole in it is the only Commer bit left. Not to worry though it's a worthwhile upgrade a you could connect the two out lets to the screen demisters using flexible trunking, in fact the original Commer stuff might still be there tucked up out of the way.

Excellent thanks for that!
Maybe I’ll put some mesh over the hole so we can still use the vent for airflow.

You would end up with a wet cab floor when it rains I'm afraid:( The original heater box was sealed around the vent flap and had a drain that went behind the front grille - if you ever hear the phrase 'don't forget ti squeeze you bulbous end' on here - that drain is where it comes from;)

Here's a similar unit to the original heater................

They are a generic item fitted to all sorts of classics, and they do come up for sale from time to time.

Oh wow ok. Thanks for the photos Colin that answers everything. Think I’ll go with what Panky suggested and leave the newer heater in and block off the heater box. Gee what a contraption it is!
