heat plate ?

hi can anyone help me out please . what goes behind the chrome grill on the front at the top of the engine to keep out rain n snow please ? is it some sort of heat shield/plate ? thanks

Do you mean the small grille just below the windscreen?
If so there should be a flap that is operated from a lever under the parcel shelf to allow fresh air though to the heater. Trouble is these rot away and, if the bottom of the heater box is also rotten, this allows water onto the cab floor[xx(] Many people take the little grille off and blank the hole up and rely on air re-circulating from the cab through the heater.
